I have had such a great week, and I just want to share with y'all what's been going on! I have something exciting to announce!
After much consideration and thought...I have decided to study abroad in Cape Town, South Africa! I was accepted today, and so was my best friend, Amber! I am so excited to take on this journey with Amber across the world. We will be living together in an apartment for 5 weeks this summer, studying and doing service work. We also get to bungee jump off of the tallest bridge in the world, cage dive with great white sharks, go on a safari, hike Table Mountain, and ride an elephant. The picture you see above is something that I hold dear to my heart...my wanderlust is progressing more and more as I get older, and it's becoming more important to me to fulfill those adventurous desires. I think my study abroad experience will be the best place my wanderlust has taken me thus far. I'm going to be blogging while I'm there, but I haven't decided whether I will create a category for the trip on this site, or if I will create a separate site. Stay tuned :)
A few little things really brightened my week, too, and I want to share them with you! Maybe they will brighten yours. Three of my best friends: Danielle, Hope, and Leah, all sent me really sweet messages that inspired me.
Danielle sent me a text message of a picture of Demi Lovato's book, Staying Strong - 365 Days a Year. She said it made her think of me :) The page read...
When we show our love, the world opens its arms for us.
You get back what you put out into the world. Put out positive energy and positivity is what you will receive. It's amazing how love can calm any situation. Even if other people behave in ways that are toxic or harmful, when you respond with love and compassion, it is powerful. Whatever the result is, you know you can sleep at night knowing you've done right, and that's all you can control.
Goal: Wear your heart on your sleeve today and let the world know how much love you have inside you. Hug as many people or make as many people smile as you can.
What a wonderful reading! It was such a compliment that Danielle thought of me when reading those words; It made me realize that my integrity is an integral part of my character, and it shines through to others. I really want to buy this book...I think I would really benefit from the kind-natured advice.
I received a letter in the mail yesterday from Hope, and she included a quote that I thought was so awesome:
"Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared."
I love that quote! What a good reminder to spread happiness to others and stay happy yourself. Even though I'm a huge Buddha lover, I had never heard this one before. I love reading new quotes.
Leah sent me a picture of something she's learning about in class. She texted me saying "I think you have good spiritual wellness." The picture said:
To enjoy spiritual wellness is to possess a set of guiding beliefs, principles, or values that give meaning and purpose to your life, especially in difficult times. The spiritually well person focuses on the positive aspects of life and finds spirituality to be an anecdote of negative feelings such as cynicism, anger, and pessimism. Organized religions help many people develop spiritual health. Religion, however, is not the only source of spiritual wellness. Many people find meaning and purpose in their lives on their own - through nature, art, meditation, or through their loved ones.
I was so flattered that this made Leah think of me, because spiritual wellness is something that I have really been working on within myself. I've noticed that I've grown, and it's nice to know that others are noticing, too!
Life is pretty great right now...but I have to remember to take it day by day, show thankfulness and compassion towards others, and thank God, my friends, and my family who have helped make all of these great moments happen.
Hope this post left you with some food for thought! Have a great day, yourself.
