So, I hope you loved my blog post about the hair products that I use! There will be many more of those...that one was targeted specifically for blondes. I haven't forgotten about my brunette and redhead friends! I have a lot of other tools and products to write about, too..but especially in the Winter when everybody's hair seems to be getting a little dull, I wanted to do a post that could help my fellow blondies freshen up their look...
Now for skin!
Ever since I was a little girl I have LOVED beauty products. Every time I went to the store with my mom (who is also a beauty junkie) I would fill up the cart with all kinds of creams, lotions, scrubs, etc. Now that I have gotten older and learned a little more about beauty products and skincare, I've really developed a passion for it. I do a lot of reading in beauty books and beauty magazines, and I've loved learning some things here and there at the Salon and Spa where I worked for two years. I think I hit the VIB (Very Important Beauty Insider) status at Sephora when I was only in middle school...
First of all...what is the dewy glow?!
The dewy glow describes a look that radiates plump, moisturized, shiny-but-not oily skin. It literally means that you have a glow about you.
This post is going to talk about the "dewy glow" trend, how to get it, and what product I think is the hot shot right now that is most likely missing from your makeup bag. Everyone's skin is different, so keep in mind that this is just what I use on MY skin! I have always had very clear skin, never had acne, never been oily. I'm just going to go through the beauty products that I personally use that I recommend to you guys and go from there.
1. The Clarisonic
If you don't have one of these yet, you are behind. The Clarisonic is a tool that deep cleans your skin, yet is gentle enough for everyday use. It leaves your skin feeling smoother than it has ever been and gives you a fresh and radiant glow. The one that I use is the purple "Mia," which is the basic facial Clarisonic. There are many different types, including ones for feet and body. They are kind of expensive, but the best thing ever. I got mine for Christmas a few years ago, and it was by far my favorite gift. You just change the brush head every 3 months.. It vibrates on your face for 60 seconds and turns off automatically.. So easy to use! It can be purchased at Sephora, Nordstrom, or the link below.
When you buy your Clarisonic, it should come with a sample size face wash. After finishing mine, I liked it so much that I went back and bought it again. Now it's my favorite! They sell many types of cleansers, but the one that I prefer is the "Gentle Hydro Cleanser." The combination of this cleanser and the actual Clarisonic tool will give you a great exfoliation. It leaves you feeling so fresh without drying out your skin. You can check out all of the cleansers in the link above, too, and see which one best fits your skin type.
3. Cetaphil Facewash
Cetaphil facial cleanser is God's gift to this Earth. It is very gentle, won't clog your pores, great for the pH of your skin, and very inexpensive. You can purchase Cetaphil at any drugstore or grocery store. A staple for sure.
This is my favorite daily moisturizer. I also like Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer, because it contains an SPF. Both of these are light while still giving you a GREAT dosage of moisture to keep your face from getting dry. It also helps your makeup go on smoothly. I use this lotion after every time I wash my face. I'm telling you - you will GLOW. It can be purchased at any drugstore and is very inexpensive.
Not exactly a product, obviously, but finding yourself a good esthetician will do wonders. My esthetician at home, Vanessa, and at school, Megan, knows what is best for my skin every time I come in to have a facial. It is very smart to get a facial at least four times a year...as the seasons change. Your esthetician will be able to customize a facial for your skin's needs and leave you with a beautiful healthy glow. Not to mention, it feels great, too, and is super relaxing. This is one spa treatment that you should not consider trivial...do yourself a favor, spend the money.
6. Burt's Bees
I have always been big on having soft lips! You can't have an all-around "dewey glow" with chapped lips! Burt's Bees is easy to find, inexpensive, all-natural, and will leave your lips incredibly smooth. You'll develop an addiction. I've used this for years.
This is a makeup line that I've used for several years now. What I love about it is that it not only gives you a glowing look when applied, it also improves the quality of your skin! The everyday face makeup that I use from Bare Minerals is "Original Foundation" and "Warmth" (You can read more about this in my makeup blog post...coming soon...it just also applies to skincare since it works from the outside in.)
8. TONS OF WATER AND GOOD NUTRITION
This is capitalized because it is the most important AND the easiest! Eat plenty of anti-oxidants and omega-3s (pomegranates, walnuts, fish) and other foods like dark chocolate, edamame, oatmeal, or colorful peppers to increase the radiance of your skin. Getting plenty of sleep is really important, too...it will reduce puffiness and darkness under your eyes. I drink two Smart Waters every day...that's two whole liters of water a day...
9. Watt's Up! by Benefit Cosmetics
I got into this highlighter when I got a sample size of it as a free gift from Sephora. Being a VIB, I get free things all the time. This was something I LOVED so much, I went back and got a full sized one.
The "dewey glow" is such a trend because it shows that your skin is HEALTHY. A radiant glow from your natural skin can be achieved by taking great care of it (and hopefully, if you try the products that I recommended in this post, you can achieve it, too).
Soon, I'll do a makeup post and talk about all of the products in my personal makeup bag (including Watts Up!) ... until then... good luck, and take great care of your skin!
