"These messages are meant to be read slowly, preferably in a quiet place. I invite you to keep a journal to record any thoughts or impressions you receive as you wait in His Presence. Remember that Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. May He bless you with His Presence and Peace in ever-increasing measure."
One of my friends bought me my own copy of the book as a gift. Since then, I have purchased the book for several of my friends and also for my Mom. We all read the daily reading each day and then discuss with each other what it means to us and how we vow to apply it to our lives.
Each devotion, for the most part, has themes of trust and thankfulness. I have never questioned my faith, but as an adult, it has become more important to me to learn all that I can about religion and to focus more on the power of prayer. This book has helped me deepen my spirituality and encourage others to do the same.
Although I read through the book in its entirety last year, I decided to read it again this year. The daily readings are timeless, and can be applied to every situation in every day of your life. The more I read it, the more meaning it has to me, and the better I am able to apply it directly to my life.
The book has other forms, too, such as Jesus Lives and Jesus Today, that can be read in conjunction with Jesus Calling. I received both of these books for Christmas this year. They are great. You can also download the Jesus Calling app on your iPhone and follow it on Twitter!
Strive to trust Me in more and more areas of your life. Anything that tends to make you anxious is a growth opportunity. Instead of running away from these challenges, embrace them, eager to gain all the blessings I have hidden in the difficulties. If you believe that I am sovereign over every aspect of your life, it is possible to trust Me in all situations. Don't waste energy regretting the way things are or thinking about what might have been. Start at the present moment - accepting things exactly as they are - and search for My way in the midst of those circumstances.
Trust is like a staff you can lean on, as you journey uphill with Me. If you are trusting in Me consistently, the staff will bear as much of your weight as needed. Lean on, trust, and be confident in Me with all your heart and mind.
Psalm 52:8; Proverbs 3:5-6 (AMP)
Starting my day with a reading like this has allowed me to reflect on the things that make me anxious and to let go of that worry, putting my trust in God and my faith in His plan for me. It has reminded me not to regret anything and to remember that this present moment is a gift, and I should live my life to the fullest today and every day, confident in all that God has planned for me.
My oldest niece, Emma, has expressed a mature interest in deepening her faith even at her young age of 7. For Christmas this year, I bought her the Jesus Calling Bible Storybook...a beautiful book filled with stories that are easy for children her age to understand, along with beautiful artwork. If you have kids at home, I really recommend looking into this book for them! She was very excited about it. She is very smart and has always been a good little reader and writer.
If you're interested in purchasing or reading about any of Sarah Young's books, I have a link below. I hope you'll read them, and if you do, please let me know! I would love to have more people to talk about Jesus Calling with :)
